Learning about a place necessarily involves experiencing the lives of people who call it home. Weekend homestays with local families help develop a personal narrative of place. Community members also become de facto instructors, acting as mentors for independent study projects, guiding students in making homemade jerky or bread, or explaining the intricacies of an irrigation system. In this program, you will experience firsthand the tensions that arise between balancing human and ecological needs, and engage with conservation solutions that integrate both.

We admit 10-14 highly motivated applicants who are passionate about conservation and willing to commit to a challenging physical and academic experience.
